Six Flags looking to give back to the community

EUREKA, MO. (KTVI) – Each year for the last 4 years employees of Six Flags have given back to the community they serve by performing community services such as painting, cleaning, landscaping, preparing food baskets and making minor repairs.

Project 6 is the umbrella name Six Flags and its employees use to guide them in what projects they will tackle. 

The park and employees are asking the community at-large to submit suggestions for Project 6 to consider for this year’s community projects.

St. Louis Zoo gets new residents: Moon Jellies, Live Corals Reef, Tropical & Freshwater Fish

ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTIV) – THE EMERSON CHILDREN’S ZOO HAS SOME NEW RESIDENTS, moon jellies, gorgeous tropical fish and sea anemones on a live coral reef, and colorful freshwater fish.

Moon jellies are boneless, brainless, heartless and are made almost entirely of water. They have been around since before the dinosaurs. Moon jellies can measure up to 15 inches in diameter, jellies eat plankton, including small shrimps, fish eggs and larvae and live in temperate areas and tropical oceans, coral reefs and bays around the world.

Children will now be able to check out the 10 jellies under lights that will turn these fascinating creatures pink, green or blue.

(KTVI) - Remember 4th of July 2012 in the St. Louis area? Remember how scorching temperatures in the 100-degree range wrecked plans for fireworks displays in communities ranging from Mehlville to Chesterfield to St. Charles and throughout the region?

Well, it's still expected to be hot for July 4th of 2013 — but if the early forecasts are correct, it won't be as bad as last year. Accuweather's long-range forecast has temperatures in the St. Louis-area in the mid- to upper-90s during the week including July 4th.

Metro East Park open for Fourth of July Celebrations

EAST ST. LOUIS, IL. (KTVI) – The Metro East Park and Recreation District wants to let all St. Louis Area residents that the Malcolm W. Martin Memorial Park, locates across from the Gateway Arch will be open for Fourth of July festivities.  The park offers an alternative to the Arch grounds, showcasing the Fair St. Louis and air show from the East St. Louis Riverfront, with a backdrop of the St. Louis Skyline and Arch in the background.

Located directly across from the Gateway Arch, the park features, walking & biking trails and a fountain, that shoots a water jet as tall as the Arch.

For the holiday, the park will be selling food and refreshments and hosting family friendly activities, such as free face painting, caricature drawings, balloon art, an inflatable obstacle course, hot air balloon display, magic shows, juggling and fire performances, carnival games and a circus workshop.

ALTON, IL. (KTVI) – The annual Feed The Need benefit concert by the Senior Service Plus meals on wheels program, has been moved due to flooding on Alton Riverfront.

 

The benefit concert will take place on the Alton Square Mall lower parking lot, next to Andy’s auto body.

 

Gate s will open at 4:00 pm on June 8th and the concert will start at 5:00 pm till 10:00 pm.

St. Louis Zoo Extending Open Hours For The Summer

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Starting on May 24th, through September 2nd, the St. Louis Zoo will be extending its hours for the summer.  On Fridays, Saturday’s and Sunday’s the zoo hours will be from 08:00 am to 7:00 pm.  Weekdays summer hours will be 8:00 am to 7:00 pm.

On Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day, the Zoo is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Zoo will close at 12 noon on Friday, June 21, for ZOOFARI, the Zoo’s biennial fundraiser.

Enjoy free live music by local bands on Friday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m., except on June 21

Cancer Survivor Campaigning To Get Justin Bieber To Cardinal Glennon

When Lauren Lee was battling cancer at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center, a visit from Justin Bieber would have done wonders to lift her spirits.

"It would have just made it all better," the 13 year old from Maryville, IL, said.

Now Lee is on a campaign to make the dream a reality for her peers at the medical center.
